Becoming a pilot - requirements?

At the moment I`m 16 and I`m thinking about choosing my future profession and I think that I would really like to become an airplane pilot. So, I was thinking, could you please tell me the basic requirements to become one? Also fees of flight schools? I would like to become a professional civil airplane pilot. Also are there some different requirements for female pilots? Thank you very much in advance! :))

Sorry for the delay in answering this question. I'm in the middle of some training so I have been away from my computer for a few months.

Firstly, there are no special requirements for female pilots. Everyone is taught and assessed on equal grounds. If it helps, I recently flew on a trip where both pilots were female.

Basic requirements would be a private license which takes roughly 50 hours, followed by a Commercial licence which takes another 150 hours. A commercial license allows you to get paid to fly. As you are working towards your commercial licence you can get a multi engine rating as well as an IFR rating which you can use as hours towards the 150 you need for a commercial license.

Flight is expensive. Mine cost me $45000. Some schools in the US are more expensive, however, schools like Embry Riddle will give you the opportunity to become paid flight instructors followed by an interview at one of the Regional airlines. Delta Academy is another school that offers interviews at Regional airlines upon completion of training.

For more information, please visit my flight schools page. As well you can visit this page for a guide on how to choose the right school and the right flight instructor.
