Commercial Pilot Training Canada - So You Want To Fly For A Living!!

Commercial Pilot Training Canada

The Transport Canada approved commercial pilot license is designed to provide a holder of a private pilot license with the additional knowledge and skills so that he/she is able to be paid for his/her flying service.

The minimum age, in Canada, for issue of a commercial pilot license is 18 years old.

The commercial pilot license course consists of an extra 35 hours dual instruction time, plus another 30 hours solo flight time.

The dual time includes 5 hours of night flying, 5 more hours of cross-country experience, and an extra 20 hours of instrument training.

There is also a solo cross country which must include a flight to a point which is at least 300 nautical miles from the point of departure with a landing at 3 different airports/aerodromes.

There is also a requirement for 5 hours of solo night flying. At the completion of the course, you must have a grand total of 200 hours flight time, with at least 100 hours of the almighty pilot-in-command (PIC) time.

You will be required to perform a flight test with a Transport Canada examiner, or a person designated by Transport Canada. You must be able to demonstrate an appropriate level of skill and ability in order to pass the flight test.

You will also have to pass a written exam. The exam material will be taught during ground school and will expand on the material that was taught during the private pilot license ground school.

The commercial ground school shall be not less than 40 hours.

After completion of the course you will be qualified to fly single-engine aeroplanes under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), by day and night, as well as VFR Over The Top (VFR OTT).

Other add ons, such as a float rating, a multi-engine rating, an instrument rating, and an instructor rating are available as separate courses. Contact you local flight school or flying club for details.
