Commercial Pilot Training To Fly For A Pay Cheque!

Commercial Pilot Training in the United States

There are two ways of achieving your commercial pilot license in the United States. The first way is through a certified flight instructor at a local flying club and the second way is through a certified flight school.

If you choose to get your commercial pilot license by the first method, with a certified flight instructor at a local flying club, then you will need at least 250 hours of total flight time.

This is broken down into cross country time or navigation experience, pilot in command time, and instrument time. Most commercial pilots in the United States have close to or over 250 hours when they get their commercial pilot license through a flying club.

If you choose to obtain your commercial pilot license by the second method, through a certified flight school, the hour requirements are a little less. However you have to do your training right from the getgo starting with a private pilot license, in a part 141 program. This way you can obtain the CPL at a minimum of 190 hours total time, but is usually closer to 200-210 hours.

Aviation colleges come under the FAA part 141 program.
