The Wright Flyer is probably the most famous airplane of all time. It was built by Wilber and Orville Wright, and was the first airplane invented, made and flown.

The Sprit of St Louis was the famous airplane flown by Charles Lindburg across the Atlantic Ocean.

The Spruce Goose was built by Howard Hughes Aircraft and was the largest airplane of it's time which was made mostly of wood.

The Enola Gay which dropped one of the Atomic Bombs on Japan in 1945.

The Glamorous Ginnie was the P-51 fighter plane flown by Chuck Yeager in WW2.

Glamorous-Glennis

The Bell Aircraft Company Model X-1 was the airplane that Charles Yeager flew faster than the speed of sound in 1947. Named "Glamorous Glenn III".

The Voyager was the first aircraft to fly around the world without stopping or refueling.

The Bell 206 N3911Z was the first helicopter that was flown around the world. It was piloted by H.R. Perot, Jr & J.W. Coburn in 1982. It did make stops to re-fuel.

A B-17F named Memphis Belle which was the first bomber to complete 25 combat missions over Germany during World War 2. It was made into a movie named "The Memphis Belle"

The Lady Be Good was a B-24 that became lost in 1943 and crashed in the North African desert. It was discovered in the 1960s.

Flight 19 On December 5, 1945, five TBM Avenger WW2 torpedo bombers disappeared in the area that became known as the mysterious Bermuda Triangle.

The all-red Fokker Dr.1 triplane, serial number 425/17, in which Germany's top ace was shot down in WW1. His name was known as the Red Baron, not Snoopy!

Fokker DR-1

The U-2 Spyplane piloted by Gary Powers, that was shot down by the Russians in 1960 and caused an embarrasment for the US CIA. When is the CIA not embarrassed?

Navy B-24 Liberator configured as a secret flying bomb, exploded in air during WW2 and killing Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., the brother to the future President.

The Piper Saratoga II HP piloted by John F. Kennedy, Jr. that crashed near Marthar's Vineyard (the son of that same President).

A common Beech Bonanza that crashed near Mason City, Iowa in February 1959, killing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.T. Richardson, aka "the Big Bopper". "That was the day that something touched me deep inside--the day the music died."

One of the most famous airplanes, and mysteries of our times was that of Amelia Earhart and her plane, that went missing on 2 July 1937 near Howland Island in the Pacific Ocean.

The Supermarine Spitfire was the airplane that was credited for helping turn back the Luftwaffe during the Battle Of Britain and also helped win World War 2. Some are still being flown today. My favorite airplane of all time and, in my opinion, the greatest fighter plane ever built. Nothing will send a chill up your spine like the sound of a Rolls Royce Merlin Engine at full throttle. In my opinion this is one of the most famous airplanes of our time.

The Hawker Hurricane was over shadowed by the dominance of the Supermarine Spitfire. The Hurricane was slower than the Spitfire and the Messerschmitt Bf 109E, but it could out turn both aircraft, so it was capable of defeating the ME 109 in combat. It was also powered with the Rolls Royce Merlin Engine.

The P51 Mustang was the United States' best fighter during World War 2. Some are still being flown today. It almost equalled the Supermarine Spitfire, but not quite. It also had the Rolls Royce Merline Engine installed. Some models carried the Allison V12 version.

Who could forget the Space Shuttle as one of the famous airplanes of the modern era. The first re-useable space vehicle.
