I need help identifying the RAF pilot in this photo

Hello. I'm trying to identify the RAF pilot in the attached photo. Do you know who this is? If not I'd appreciate any info you could tell me about the plane or uniform that would help me in my research. Thanks for yout time.

Ryan Haws from Minnesota USA

Ryan,

I'm unable to help you in identifying this pilot. You may want to try the Imperial War Museum in London. Perhaps there is another reader on here who can help as well.

As for the airplane, judging by the canopy, I would say it is either a Supermarine Spitfire or a Hawker Hurricane. Looking at the wing route and the airframe "skin" I would say it was a Spitfire powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine.

Hope this helps your research.

Cheers

ITS A HURRICANE
by: Russ

Certainly a Hawker Hurricane of 85 squadron RAF. Pilot possibly Peter Townsend but can't be sure.
