landing approach

by David

i would like to know why do larger jet approach the airport runways lower than the smaller jets,? ie virgin jets at gatwick is this because of the runway size?
i hope you can answer this for me as it is report exam type question thank you drhorton1@hotmail.com

Answer: everyone should be approaching the runway the same. Most commercial airlines will do an IFR approach which gives them a 3 degree glide path. The auto pilot flies the approach until a specified altitude above ground where the pilots turn the AP off and land the airplane. It may be an optical illusion and the larger jets seem to be approaching lower.
