Maintaining Your Air Traffic Controller Licence

by Mark
(Jamaica)

What is the longest time an air traffic controller can be absent from work with out having to do any retraining on return?

--------------------------------------------------
In Canada, we have to sign on duty once every 30 days to retain our license. If we go over 30 days without being on duty than we have to do a thirty day check.

We also have to do a proficiency check once every 6 months. So long as you continue to pass your prof checks then you can retain your license. I recall one controller who had not controlled traffic for over 8 months. She did a couple of sims, upon her return, to get her skills back and then did her prof check and was controlling traffic again the next day.

Hope this answers your question.
