My Future With Aviation

by Mmohamad
(Melbourne,VIC,Australia)

Hi,
I am Mohamad Abouhasna. I am Australian and will Finish year 12 in Lebanon in a month. I was looking forward in becoming an Air traffic controller,or a Pilot. Where do I have to start if I was to study in Australia?

Would it take long to get started with good income after graduation?

Please answer both questions for Pilot and ATC, plus does being a pilot mean staying away from family for long?

Hi Mohamad,

For a career in ATC in Australia the training is provided by Air Services Australia. If you visit my Air Traffic Control page you will find all the info you need to become an air traffic controller in Australia. I also have a link to Air Services Australia on that page, as well as salary information.

In regards to becoming a pilot, you typically work 14-18 days a month and some of those days could be long. As for spending a lot of time away from family, it depends on the route you fly on. If you get on an international route then you fly to your destination, have a day off or two for crew rest and then fly home again. If you fly on a domestic route you could probably be home every night.

Please visit my Flight Schools page for more info on how to become a pilot in Australia. As well you can visit my Australian Flight School Directory page for a listing of flight schools in Australia.
