PPL Pilot Training Australia - How To Get Your PPL Down Under
PPL Pilot Training Australia
Your new adventure awaits with a simple phone call to book yourself in for a Familiarization Flight at your local flying club or flight school.
During this flight you will see if flying is really what you want to do before committing yourself to the training. Flight training is not cheap!
The road to obtaining your Private Pilot Licence is quite simple and is a whole lot of fun!
You will need to undertake a Medical examination with one of CASA's Designated Aviation Medical Examiners (DAME). The Class 2 medical examination required for a Private Pilot Licence is basically a general physical check-up. Provided you are in good health, the medical is nothing more than a formality.
After you complete your Class Two medical you will be issued with your Student Pilot Licence. This is very much like a learner’s permit for a car.
This first phase of training is where you actually learn to fly the aircraft. You will learn all the basics of flying such as climbs, descents, turns (normal and steep), and stall recovery.
After you have mastered these areas of flying you will start to fly the aircraft in the circuit, or traffic pattern as it is called in some countries, where you will practise takeoffs and landings. (Kind of an aimportant part of flying!)
Once you have proven that you are able to handle any situation which you might encounter without any difficulties, your instructor will send you off on your very first solo flight.
This is THE flight which you will re-live for the rest of your life. Even Senior Airline Captains, with years of airline flying-time, will recount their first solo flight with great detail!
After mastering your circuit procedures, you will then return to the training area for a series of flights where you will learn some advanced flying skills. These include forced landings, advanced stalling, compass turns, and instrument flying.
You will also undertake your first solo flight to the local training area.
You will also learn how to land the aircraft in a cross wind and on shorter/softer runways.
PPL Pilot Training Australia - Ground School
As is the case with most complex training environments, there is a ground school portion of the course which you will have to complete. You can do this in conjunction with the flight training.
The ground school covers the topics of navigation, meteorology, flight rules and procedures, aircraft performance and aerodynamics.
PPL Pilot Training Australia - Flight Test
Once your instructor believes that you have proven the necessary skills he/she will recommend you for a flight test. This flight test is normally conducted by an Approved Test Officer.
On the successful completion of your flight test, you are now licensed to carry passengers within the confines of the local training area.
Phase 2: PPL Pilot Training Australia
Once you have completed your first phase, you can start working towards your full private pilot licence. This will enable you to fly anywhere in Australia.
This phase focuses on navigating and map reading in the air. This will enable you to do cross country flights.
At the completion your second phase of training, you will need to complete another flight test; once again this is normally done by a CASA Approved Test Officer.
Once you successfully complete this test, you are authorised to fly an aircraft for pleasure, or for private business purposes, anywhere in Australia.
Your licence does not entitle you to charge for monetary gain. This would require that you hold a Commercial Pilot Licence. However you can legally share the cost of the hire of the aircraft with your passengers on an equal basis.
