Private Pilot Training Canada
Private Pilot Training Canada
A Private Pilots Licence gives you the necessary paper work to safely fly small, single-engine aeroplanes under visual flight rules during daylight hours.
It is the first building block for all higher licenses and ratings.
Additional qualifications such as a floatplane rating, a multi-engine aircraft rating, instrument flight rules, or flying during night may be added to a Private Pilot License.
Transport Canada mandates the training required to obtain a Private Pilots Licence in Canada.
This training requires
Upon completion of the flight training, you will complete a flight test conducted by a Transport Canada examiner, or a person designated by Transport Canada.
This exam will include an oral exam of about an hour in length as well as the flight exam which is typically on hour to an hour and a half long. The flight exam will cover everything that you were taught by your flight instructor.
Private Pilot Training Canada - Ground School
There is also a requirement to complete a ground school course. This can be done by enrolling in an online ground school program, or doing it at night at your local flying club.
The ground school component will be at least 40 hours of instruction.
The online ground school course enables the student to learn at their own pace whenever, and wherever they chose. The online course is made up of online presentations with practise exams at the end of each module. Upon satisfactory completion of the ground school, the student will conduct a written exam (60% pass mark) administered by a Transport Canada representative.
Prior to receiving the Student Pilot Permit for solo flight, you must have undergone a medical examination with a Civil Aviation Medical Examiner and received at least a category 3 medical certificate from Transport Canada. As well you must successfully complete the PSTAR exam, which covers general aviation knowledge.
You will also need to write an exam to get your radio operators certificate. This is more of a formality than anything, so don't sweat it.
