Roy Koenig

My Grandfather was a master tin smith named John Rheinhold Koenig. My Mother and Father told me that he ran a factory and was the person, who constructed the first metal airplane. It would have happened in New Jersey or New York, but probably New Jersey. Can you confirm that my grandfather was responsible for this achievement? My Grandfather got killed in an automobile accident when my Father was 7 years old. My father was born in 1910, so my Grandfather's work would have had to be done before 1920 for sure.

Well Sir, this is a most interesting question that you pose. I've searched high and low for an answer for you, but alas I must conceed defeat on this.

I truely believe that your claim is definitely plausible, however I'm out of my league in finding an answer for you.

If I may, why not get in touch with the Smithsonian. They have a fair amount of experience in researching this type of claim. They also have a lot of historians that may be able to help you out.

I wish you all the best in your endeavors. If you get an answer can you let me know. I would love to be the first website to publicly say that your Grandfather built the first metal plane.
